Why use a personal trainer?
Whether
you are new to exercising, require sport specific conditioning or just
want to ensure that your health and fitness doesn’t go by the wayside
as you juggle demanding jobs and family life, a qualified personal
trainer (along with hard work from you!) can help you get there. By
using their expertise and knowledge they can put together a customised
program to meet your specific aims, needs and schedule and then coach
and motivate you to achieve your goals.
In order to get
results your personal trainer has to be right for you, as we all have
different motivational styles and ways of working.
About me.
I
spent twelve years in the army serving in Northern Ireland, Lebanon,
the gulf and Sudan as a member of close protection teams, ultimately
becoming an instructor at the close protection wing of the Royal
Military Police training centre. During this time my interest in
fitness really began through teaching students, instructing close
quarter combat and training alongside some of the VIP’s I shadowed, as
well as implementing rehabilitation programmes, on behalf of a distant
physiotherapist, for one particular protectee who had been injured
operationally.
After leaving the army, I continued working in
the close protection world, looking after an at risk family for five
years and then, wanting a change of career and more stable home life,
realised that I could put to use all my training experience and help
others to enhance their fitness and wellness.
In November 2000 I
took the Premier Diploma in Personal Training, a twelve week course
intensive course, teaching all aspects of fitness instruction, dealing
with special populations, sports massage and injury rehabilitation.
 After
working successfully in London, as a fitness specialist, I moved to
Norfolk with my wife Jo and our outrageously fit dogs dogs in July 2006
and have now got a broad variety of clients on board. I have experience
training people from hugely varied backgrounds and abilities, with the
common theme being that they want to work with me to achieve results.
My style of training is not a fashion accessory or status symbol, but a
focused means to those results.
Getting
started.
After
initial discussions via phone or email, where we have both decided that
we could work together to reach your goals, I will then visit you for a
consultation. This includes a comprehensive questionnaire covering
medical history, activity levels, aims and goals, sport specific
requirements, motivating factors, and taking baseline measurements such
as blood pressure, lung function, body composition, together with an
assessment of flexibility and movement patterns. This consultation is
free and there is no obligation to train with me if you do not want to
feel that I am the right trainer for you.
From our first meeting and based on the results gathered, I can then put together an exercise plan ready for our first session.

What Services?
Primarily
I provide tailored personal training services (single or small
group). However, as a qualified sports massage therapist I also
can help out with niggling aches and pains and this also allows me to
programme around physical restrictions or limitations. Where an injury
is beyond my professional scope, I have a wide network to refer to,
ensuring that you are at full fitness as soon as possible.
Training.
To
avoid your body getting used to a regime and to keep you interested I
constantly update your program, whilst still carefully programming to
induce a training stimulus to cause the required physical adaptation. I
bring all equipment to you and although we can train inside, my
preference is to get outside and work hard, making the most of
Norfolk’s stunning natural gyms.
Whether you are a long term
client or a new sign up, I put the same efforts into changing and
adapting your program to keep your training fresh, effective and fun.
More about
qualifications.
The fitness industry is constantly changing and certainly a lot has moved on since my basic training in the army.
As
a member of the Register of Exercise Professionals (REP’s) which has
been setup to safeguard the health and interests of people who are
using the services of exercise and fitness instructors, teachers and
trainers, I have to undergo a minimum amount of annual Continuing
Profession Development to maintain my Level 3 status (Advanced
Instructor - able to devise and deliver programmes to meet individual
or group fitness needs.) Over recent years I have qualified in weight
management, sports nutrition, speed, agility and quickness training,
combat fitness, running coaching, Olympic lifting, suspension training,
kettlebell training and Nordic walking instruction.
I am insured for all aspects of my fitness training and sports massage.
The next step.
The hard part is making the decision to get started. Then its
all about
fun, effective training. Challenge yourself!
